We support accessibility by: 

• designing an accessible web form
• including alternate formats on the website – traveller factsheet in 22 languages, information videos with transcripts, large print, braille and audio content. We’re working on getting Easy Read.
• checking our content for accessibility issues, keeping track of issues and fixing them
• engaging with independent accessibility advisors
• working to meet the NZ Government Web Accessibility Standard and NZ Government Web Usability Standard

The digital New Zealand Traveller Declaration can be filled out through a web app or a mobile app.

We recommend that people with accessibility needs use the web app rather than the mobile app. The mobile app team is continuing to assess user needs and will be including accessible enhancements in the future.

Travellers can ask someone they trust to help them complete the declaration or fill it out on their behalf.

There is a paper declaration form available on arrival, if needed. Travellers do not need to fill in a paper declaration form if they have completed a digital declaration.

The New Zealand Traveller Declaration has been through multiple reviews with independent advisors, to assess compliance with Level AA of the NZ Government Web Accessibility Standards 1.1, and solutions to issues have been iteratively identified and implemented.

The web app and the mobile app have been designed for use with assistive technologies.

The web app supports the latest, and most recent versions of:

• Safari
• Chrome
• Firefox

Older versions of these browsers may not be supported.

We are continuing to work on improving accessibility for all users.

For the web app, this work includes:

• the ability for screen reader users on mobile phones to be able to swipe to select an item from a list
• making sure content is read to screen reader users in a logical order
• reviewing page focus for screen readers, to make sure a screen reader and other users can easily move through a page without confusion
• consistency in how we ask users to input information, especially for keyboard users and screen reader users
• reviewing how a page looks when users magnify text by zooming or scaling.
